CVILLE MATCH – The Cville Match program seeks to advance commercialization efforts of local companies by providing matching funds to recipients of Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR), Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) and the Commonwealth Research and Commercialization Fund (CRCF) grants.  In addition, Cville Match provides matching funds to City based recipients of the Virginia Jobs Investment Program (VJIP). VJIP is administered by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership and is designed to help Virginia based traded-sector companies create new jobs in the commonwealth.  Qualifying City-based companies are eligible to receive a local match once federal/state funds have been approved. Match amounts are up to $25,000 per-company, per-grant, subject to funds availability. Charlottesville Climate Collaborative (C3) Summer Sprint – Charlottesville Climate Collaborative (C3) is a local environmental non-profit. C3 hosts the Home Energy Challenge (https://www.cvillechallenge.org/) throughout the year to help Charlottesville households reduce their carbon footprints. Over 250 households have joined this fun and practical way to take climate action and have already reduced emissions by 300 tons of carbon — that’s equal to removing 60 cars from the road for an entire year! In July C3 will be launching their Summer Sprint! Running from July 15th to August 25th, the Summer Sprint involves six weeks of climate action that will engage and unite the Charlottesville community through social media. City Calls on Community for Unity Days 2019 Event and Program Ideas – The City of Charlottesville and the Unity Days Action Committee are calling on community members, organizations, and groups to propose event and programming ideas for Unity Days 2019 taking place in July and August.  For more information on Unity Days event proposal deadlines and how to submit, go to: http://www.charlottesville.org/departments-and-services/departments-a-g/city-manager-s-office/communications/unity-days-2019.

Annual Trash Decals Expired on June 30 – The City of Charlottesville would like to remind the community that annual trash decals expired on June 30 and to purchase a new one to ensure no disruptions in service.  There will be a two-week grace period to renew/purchase a new annual decal. Service will continue for expired containers until 7/15.  Annual trash decals are available for 32-gallon, 50-gallon, 64-gallon and 96-gallon containers. A decal must be purchased for each container you plan to use with a maximum weight limit below:

  • Full 32-gallon containers must not exceed a weight of 50 lbs.
  • Full 50-gallon containers must not exceed a weight of 75 lbs.
  • Full 64-gallon containers must not exceed a weight of 100 lbs.
  • Full 96-gallon containers must not exceed a weight of 150 lbs.

The decals will bear the address for which they were purchased and may not be used at any other address.  Annual trash decals can be purchased in the lobby of City Hall.
DMV Select now open in Charlottesville City Hall – The City of Charlottesville has opened a DMV Select office in the main lobby of City Hall. The public can now complete various vehicle-related transactions such as license plates, titles, and registrations with the help of City employees during weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

BeHeardCVA – BeHeardCVA is developing a regional (Tomas Jefferson Planning District) survey panel as a tool for community engagement and action.  With the panel, non-profits, community organizations, and local governments will be able to more quickly and cost effectively survey communities they serve. These surreys will touch on quality of life issues, such as education, healthcare and transportation.  Enrollment is free, and there will be lottery prizes and loyalty benefits. Importantly, the success of the panel lies in its diversity and representativeness. It is our goal to invite all residents of the region (18 and older) to participate and have their voices heard.  You can learn more and sign up at: https://beheardcva.org

City/County/UVA Announce Regional Coordination on Climate Initiatives and Invite Public Participation – The City of Charlottesville, Albemarle County, and the University of Virginia – building upon a history of commitments on sustainability and climate action – will be embarking on a collaborative community outreach effort as each entity begins to update their greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets and develop climate action plans (CAPs). The results of these efforts will serve to guide climate action in the Charlottesville area for the next 10-30 years.  To enable broad community engagement and participation in informing these commitments, the three organizations are coordinating their outreach efforts across their sustainability offices. Residents, businesses, and area stakeholders are encouraged to get involved and participate in this collaboration – starting today.  The community is encouraged to go to www.ClimateActionTogether.org to learn about specific participation opportunities, previous regional climate action efforts, and more information about each organization’s efforts.
